Don't Forget to Write
A look at the Canadian YMCA through historical postcards

This book is based on the postcard collection built by Donald McGregor (1913-2003) who spent most of his life associated with the YMCA - first as a young boy, later as a staff member and finally in his retirement as a volunteer and consultant. In his retirement, he began to collect Canadian YMCA postcards and by the time of his death had put together a collection of over 500 vintage postcards.

Over 200 of the postcards in the collection are shown in the book and they have been carefully selected to illustrate the YMCA`s presence in every province in Canada as well as its support of military action overseas in both world wars. They represent a nostalgic look at over 100 years of history and growth of this organization in Canada.

Patty McGregor, the author, is the daughter of Donald McGregor and present custodian of the postcard collection. She grew up in the YMCA environment, worked in various capacities at summer camps and full-time for the organization for a number of years. She continues to add interesting Y postcards to the collection. You can contact her at: or at
